During pregnancy you may start to see stretch marks and/or cellulite. Whether they are new in appearance or just growing there are a few things you need to know. Stretch marks are very genetic in their origin, so if your mom had them you might. The only way you can prevent stretch marks is to watch your weight gain and make sure you gain weight steadily, not sporadically, during pregnancy. Know this: No creams can penetrate the skin deep enough to get rid of stretch marks and/or cellulite!
Cellulite is also genetic in origin, although this does not mean you will always have cellulite even if your mother does. Exercise can reduce the amount of cellulite you have during pregnancy; and strength training will reduce it’s apperance. Remember: there is nothing you can do to improve your genetics, so it’s up to you to exercise and get rid of it. Or prevent it…with your exercise program.
After-baby weight loss will help you get rid of stretch marks and cellulite. As for the loose skin you may be left with–your genetics, age, and skin elasticity will determine how quickly it will tighten up again. But if you take care of yourself during pregnancy you will more than likely eliminate any loose skin after baby. So exercise during pregnancy and you will reduce the likelihood of stretch marks, cellulite and loose skin post-baby!
